It is most useful for checking tool angle while cuttingthreads in metal turning lathes. The angle on the threadcutting tool is checked on the V slots in the gauge. Relief at the end of each slot enables proper seating ofthe cutting tool in the slot thus ensuring correct angle. The gauge clearly indicates 55 for Whitworth
