Middle School Cliques mixed mediaFor middle school, I transferred to a new school and found the whole experience jarring. Gone was the small classroom with friends Id had since kindergarten. My new school seemed huge, with changing classrooms and teachers every hour, and strangers all around. Middle School Cliques is my impression of those first weeks, with the world around me so gray and frightening. Even the kids seemed alien as they clustered into cliques by some unknown method.

I loved juxtaposing the hard-edged architectural rectangles with the loose fluid drips

Poured acrylic painting Encroaching Lava (Little Gem 22) reminds me of the slow-moving lava you might see as the magma on top cools and the thermal layer beneath struggles to continue flowing

with chemicals added to some (but not all) of them
